Bahraini Shia Cleric Arrested for “Unauthorized” Prayers

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Al Khalifa regime forces in Bahrain detained a Shia cleric under the pretext of holding Friday prayers without permission.

Sheikh al-Minsi remained in custody and was interrogated for 48 hours, al-Alam news network reported.

Authorities say the Friday prayers and the sermons Sheikh al-Minsi delivered were "unauthorized”.

International rights groups have repeatedly censured the Bahraini regime over its crackdown on the country’s Shia Muslims and on dissent.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.
