"Continuation of the presence of scholars and the clergy, and the presence of the people as a result has made the continuation of the (Islamic) Revolution’s movement possible”, the Leader said in a meeting with the managers, scholars and students of seminary schools in Tehran on Saturday.
The US has been trying to eliminate the clergy from the general movement of the Iranian nation since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution but has failed to do so up to now and, by the grace of God, will not be able to do it in the future either, His Eminence said.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted that in the countries where the Islamic Awakening "earthquake” took place, the religion brought people to the scene but the movements did not last because religious institutions in these countries are divided.
The Leader then touched on the responsibilities of the clergy, saying that religious and intellectual guidance, political guidance and enhancing people’s insight, and presence in the field of social services are three major duties of clerics and religious scholars,
Ayatollah Khamenei further highlighted the importance of religion in society and said that if all expertise are available in a society in the best way but it is not religious, its members will face serious harms in this world and the next.
The responsibility of turning the society into a religious one is on the shoulders of scholars, clerics and religious students, the Leader went on to say.
Prior to the Leader’s address, Hojat-ol-Islam Rashad, head of the Council of Tehran Province’s Seminary Schools, presented a report on the activities of religious schools in the province and their role in political and social developments.
He said that there are 133 seminary schools active in the province with 15000 students and 1600 scholars.
