This is the 16th edition of the al-Aqsa Quran competition, which, according to the organizers, aims to raise a generation of memorizers of the Quran who are skilled in Tajweed and recitation principles and adhere to the teachings of the Holy Book, Safa news agency reported.
Abdul Hadi Aqa, director general of by the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry’s Quran Memorization Department, said the competition, which is annually held in 4 categories, will last for 12 days.
He said 860 contestants from 5 provinces are attending the Quranic event in two separate sections for men and women.
Aqa added that several panel of judges have been formed to evaluate the performance and skills of the participants in different categories.
He went on to say that winners of the competition will receive cash prizes of $2000 to $4500.
Despite the Zionist occupation of Palestine, the Palestinian people have kept developing Quranic activities, including competitions and recitation sessions, for years.
