Tashkent to Host OIC Foreign Ministers' Session This Week

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, will be hosting on October 18-19the 43rd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

OIC Director General of Political Affairs Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhiet indicated that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the chairman of the 42nd session of the CFM, will preside over the inaugural session. Interim President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will then deliver a statement.

OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani will also deliver a statement to highlight the Organization’s views on the challenges ahead, within the political security, economic, cultural, social and humanitarian framework.The session will witness the handing over of the CFM’s chairmanship to Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, who will deliver a statement on the occasion.

Ambassador Bakhiet said the inaugural session will also witness a debate on the theme of the 43rd session of the CFM: "Education and Enlightenment: the Path to Peace and Creativity”. Further, the OIC Center for Dialogue, Peace and Understanding (CDPU) will be officially launched at the inaugural session in a special ceremony.

He pointed out that among the key resolutions to be considered by the CFM are those related to the Palestine issue, the situations in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Mali and the Central African Republic, as well as the issues of the Muslim communities in non-OIC member states, particularly in Myanmar.

The two-day conference will examine important resolutions concerning combating terrorism, radicalism, disarmament and countering Islamophobia.

The second day of the CFM proceedings will see the adoption of resolutions already approved at the preparatory meetings.

The meeting will conclude with the issuance of the Tashkent Declaration.

Bakhiet added that in the course of the 43rd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, a special brainstorming session will be held under the title of "Increasing Opportunities and Boosting the Creative Capacities of the Younger Generations”.
