Damaged Qurans’ Ashes Disposed of in Reef Park in Malaysia
TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Sultan of Malaysia’s Kelantan state, Sultan Muhammad V, witnessed the disposal of 10 tons of Quran ashes at Taman Tukun Keputeraan, a reef park in the South China Sea, about 14 nautical miles off Tok Bali beach on Monday.
The Sultan, who was accompanied by the Tengku Mahkota Kelantan, Tengku Dr Muhammad Faiz Petra, arrived in Tok Bali at 12.20pm, and boarded a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) vessel to head to the location.
The ashes were loaded onto three foreign fishing boats seized for conducting illegal fishing activities in the country’s waters as well as an old vessel owned by MMEA.
The four vessels were submerged as artificial reefs for fish breeding in the park.
According to the Kelantan Islamic Religious Department, damaged Quran copies were collected from houses and mosques submerged in water during the floods in 2014.
The damaged Qurans were then burned in a furnace before the ashes were disposed of at sea.
