Quran Competition in Memory of “Ashkanani” Begins in Kuwait

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first edition of an international Quran recitation competition in memory of “Sheikh Hamid Murad Ashkanani”, late Kuwaiti prominent Qari, got underway in Kuwait.

The preliminary stage of the online competition began on November 20 through WhatsApp with the participation of Qaris from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt and Bahrain.

It has been organized by Minbar Al-Quran Association and its preliminary stage will continue until November 30.

Quran activists willing to attend the competition should send an audio file of their recitation, including verses 117 to 121 of Surah Taubah, to the organizing committee’s WhatsApp number 0096551132272.

The final stage of the competition will be held on December 22 at Jasim Al-Wazan Grand Mosque of Kuwait’s Hawalli Governorate.

Born in 1955, Sheikh Hamid Murad Ashkanani was an expert Quran reciter in Minshawi style, a memorizer of the entire Quran, and a member of panel of judges in international Quran competitions.

The scholar completed his Quranic studies at the Dar-ol-Quran center of Kuwait’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

He was a member of the panel of judges of the 32nd international Quran competition in Iran.

The 61-year old expert held Ramadan Quranic sessions as well as weekly Quran recitation classes at different mosques of Kuwait.
