The ministry in an announcement made on the occasion of Unity Week said the number of mosques constructed in different parts of the country during the current year reached 195, noorpress website reported.
They were mostly built by the ministry under a national plan for improving the conditions of places of worship in Morocco, the statement said, adding that some of the mosques were funded by benevolent donors.
According to the plan, a 90-million Moroccan dirham fund has also been allocated for maintaining and renovating mosques in the country, it added.
Morocco is a country located in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Islam is the largest religion in the country, with more than 99 percent of the population adhering to it. The vast majority of Muslims in Morocco are Sunni belonging to the Maliki school of jurisprudence.
