TEHRAN (IQNA) – Four Quran activists are among thousands of candidates running for a seat in Tehran city council.

Iran’s 5th City and Village Councils Elections and the country’s 12th presidential election will be held on Friday, May 19.

In Tehran, the Election Monitoring Board has approved more than 2,700 of applicants seeking to challenge 31 seats in the Islamic City Council.

Among those approved for running in the elections, are the following four Quran activists.

Ahmad Masjed Jamei is the founder of the Tehran International Quran Exhibition and president of the National Quran Museum’s board of trustees.

The three others are Zakiyeh Abdollahian, editor-in-chief of Besharat (good news) Quranic magazine and secretary of women Quran researchers center, Hassan Bayadi, a member of the International Quran News Agency (IQNA) policy-making council, and Seyed Mohammad Mousavi, a memorizer of the entire Quran and a Qari.

The four have launched their campaign with the motto of "Developing Citizenship Ethics and Religious Culture”.
