TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Malay actor-director says he has a mission to inspire people, including non-Muslims, to appreciate the beauty of Quranic teachings.

QuranHour Planned in Malaysia on August 31

Datuk Rosyam Nor said he would use his involvement in the #QuranHour program on Malaysia’s National Day to unite communities.

He said there were many unfavorable views of Islam, with some thinking most Muslims were prone to violence

"Through this program, we wish to remove ill feelings towards Islam.

"We want people to know that the religion should not be associated with the behaviors of a few.

"We welcome non-Muslims to witness the beauty of what we are doing,” he told the New Sunday Times.

Rosyam, who is an icon for the World #QuranHour program, said he hoped the event would encourage Muslims to read the Quran daily.

"The Quran is our guide. Without it, we can go astray. That is why there are many social problems and moral issues, because people are not guided by the Quran.

"Everything in the Quran has value, and we should take time to understand it.”

He said activities during the World #QuranHour program at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 31 included a religious talk and Quran recitation from local and international qari (reciter).

He said due to the overwhelming response to last year’s World #QuranHour walk, he planned to take a different approach to enhance the event this year.

"On Aug 21, my team will climb KL Tower to fly the Malaysian flag and World #QuranHour flag.

"If possible, I wish to invite Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to fly the Malaysian flag.”

The World #QuranHour program will be held on Aug 31 to coincide with the time when Hajj pilgrims perform wukuf (a religious ritual) in Arafah, Saudi Arabia.

International Islamic University of Malaysia will host the event at its Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque between 11am and 1pm.
