TEHRAN (IQNA) – The annual ceremony to change the Kiswa (covering of the holy Ka’aba) in Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia) was held on Thursday morning.
New Covering for Ka’aba

The covering cloth of the Ka’aba is changed every year on the day of Arafa (9th day of Dhul Hajja on the lunar Hijri calendar) and ahead of Eid al-Adha.

The new cover has been made from pure silk, according to al-Alam news network.

The cover, inscribed with verses from the Holy Quran, is prepared by over 200 weaving experts.

It usually takes 8 months to prepare the 657 square meter covering of the Ka’aba.

Usually, the previous Kiswa, that covered four walls and the door of the Ka’aba, will be torn into pieces and gifted to foreign dignitaries.

Muslims worldwide, including Hajj pilgrims in Mecca, will celebrate Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) on Friday.
