TEHRAN (IQNA) –  A number of Quranic institutes in Baghdad said they plan to hold a march in the city on Saturday to commemorate the movement and uprising of Imam Hussein (AS).

According to Qaaf news agency, this was announced in a meeting of the institutes’ directors held at the National Quranic Sciences Center affiliated to Iraq’s Shias’ Waqf Department.

They decided to hold the rally at 10 am on Saturday, the 26th day of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram.

People from all walks of life as well as officials and Quranic figures have been invited to take part in the rally.

Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Moaweya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
