Officials Hail Development of Quranic Activities in Iran
The competition, along with four other international Quran contests- those for women, visually-impaired, school students and seminary students- was officially launched in the ceremony on Wednesday evening.
Speaking to IQNA after the opening, Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s Chief of Staff Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani described such competitions as being programs that help to promote Quranic activities.
He added that much progress has been made in organizing the event over the years.
The senior cleric hailed the development in Quranic activities in the country and added that Iran is only country whose constitution is based on the Quran and the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Seerah.
Iran’s Culture Minister Seyed Abbas Salehi also spoke to IQNA after the opening ceremony, saying such international Quranic event help to foil attempts by some to accuse Shia Muslims of sidelining the Quran.
He added that the presence of contenders from various countries provides an opportunity to counter anti-Shia and anti-Iran propaganda.
Seyed Mohammad Bat’hayi, Iran’s Minister of Education, was another Cabinet minister speaking to IQNA at the ceremony.
He referred to the international Quran contest for school students and said it helps encourage students to learn the Quran and also helps officials identify Quranic talents.
He further underlined that the main objective of Quranic education and activities is promoting contemplating the Quran and its teachings.
Meanwhile, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehdi Khamoushi, head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization that organizes the annual competitions, told IQNA that they are important international events, adding that efforts have been made to improve the quality of the contests.
As many as 184 Quran activists from 84 countries have traveled to Iran to participate in the contests, which will run until April 14.
