Translator of Quran into Portuguese Dies at 97

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Egyptian who translated the Quran into the Portuguese Language died aged 97.

 

Helmi Mohammad Nasir, who lived in Brazil most of his life, died in Egypt, according to akhbaar24 website.

His Portuguese translation of the Quran was published in 2004 by the King Fahd Quran Printing Complex in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

He also translated many other books from Arabic to Portuguese and vice versa.

Nasir also was the founder of the Arabic Language Department at the University of Sao Paulo.

A ceremony will be held in Sao Paulo on Sunday to commemorate the scholar.
