TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 250 Quran activists have applied to compete in the 37th edition of Iran’s International Quran Competition, an official said.

Karim Dolati, the secretary and spokesman for the organizing committee, told IQNA that more than 250 have registered their names to take part in the international Quranic event.

He said not all of them are going to attend the contest, adding that registration will continue until February and then a process for determining the qualification of the applicants will start.

Dolati said the competition will kick off on Friday, April 10, which is the 16th day of the lunar Hijri month of Shaaban.

Noting that the holy city of Mashhad has been selected to host the international event this year, he said members of the organizing committee have traveled to the city and visited the places specified for hosting the contest and accommodating the contenders.

The 37th edition of Iran’s International Holy Quran Competition will be held with a new category, namely Tarteel recitation of the Quran, added to its categories.

The Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the competition with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.

Quran reciters and memorizers from over 80 countries took part in the 36th edition, held in Tehran in April 2019.
