Yemen Nat’l Quran Contest: Preliminary Stage Underway

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The preliminary stage of Yemen’s national Quran competition is underway at the Quran University in Sana’a.

The competition on memorization of the Quran started in the Yemeni capital on Thursday, Saba news agency reported.

It is annually organized by the country’s Awqaf Ministry in cooperation with the Quranic Culture Center.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Salih al-Khulani said the competition is aimed at promoting the teachings of the Quran and acting upon them in society.

He also said memorizers of the Quran have a responsibility to remind people of the need to act upon Quranic teachings.

Quranic activities continue in Yemen despite a nearly-five-year aggression launched by Saudi Arabia and its allies against the impoverished Arab country that has left thousands killed and many more injured and homeless.
