According to the Iranian Cultural Center in Algeria, the competition that had been scheduled for the second half of the holy month of Ramadan was called off in April.
But then the officials said they would soon announce a new date for the contest.
However, Algeria’s Awqaf and Religiosu Affairs Ministry said in a statement lately that given the severity of the coronavirus pandemic, no new date can be set for the time being.
The international Quran competition is annually organized with the participation of some 60 countries.
The Ministry has suspended many religious activities, including congregational prayers, with the outbreak of the disease.
Some planned events have also been cancelled.
