Tasnim Quran Exegesis Completed
The first volume of the grand work, whose 58th and 59th volume are being prepared for publication, was released in 1999.
It is he most detailed interpretation of the Holy Book published so far and in 2006 was named a top work in the field of Quranic and Islamic studies by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
At the last session of the lecture series, which featured interpretation of the last Surah (chapter) of the Quran- Surah Naas, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli touched upon how he decided to start the series.
The senior cleric said that in the year 1400 Hijri (1980), at the end of a series of lessons on Islamic teachings, he was wondering what lessons he should start teaching from then on.
It crossed his mind that he should give lectures on interpretation of the Quran.
“I had no thought about it, no previous idea, nor any consultations with anyone.”
When he started giving the lectures, the sessions were held at a small religious school in Qom, but over the years the number of participants grow so large that they had to be organized at the biggest mosque in the city, the Azam Mosque.
It took Ayatollah Javadi Amoli nearly 40 years to complete the exegesis and he considers everything related to the Quranic work to be a blessing from God.
Islamic scholar and thinker Hojat-ol-Islam Abdolhossein Khosropanah told IQNA a few years ago on Tasnim Quran Exegesis that the grand Ayatollah has presented a comprehensive work by using three methods: interpreting the Quran by referring to the Quran itself, to Hadith and to intellect.
He pointed to the scientific aspects of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli’s character and said he is a great figure in the fields of philosophy, Quran interpretation and Fiqh (jurisprudence) who has a comprehensive approach to Islamic sciences.
“In every field he has entered, the grand Ayatollah has meticulously investigated issues and presented new and innovative ideas about them due to his mastery over the sources and the Ijtihadi methodology.”
Author of the book “Investigating Contemporary Iran’s Intellectual Currents” stressed that Ayatollah Javadi Amoli has presented a successful interpretation of the Quran.
