TEHRAN (IQNA) – Online courses on Quran recitation and Tajweed principles have been organized in the holy city of Najaf with the participation of 140 students from 14 provinces of Iraq.

According to Al-Kafeel website, Muhnad Majid Al-Mayali, director of the Najaf-based branch of the Holy Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine, said that the courses are a part of different annual Quranic activities of the branch.

They are organized online due to the coronavirus restrictions.

The Quranic classes are held four days a week by Ahmad Al-Zamili, who teaches Tajweed principles on Saturdays and Tuesdays and Quran recitation principles on Fridays and Sundays.

Promoting the Quranic skills of the country’s Quran reciters is the main objective of the educational program.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
