TEHRAN (IQNA) – Saudi Arabia said its security organization has fined 16 pilgrims who have entered Mecca’s holy sites during the Hajj season without having a permission.

According to RT Arabic, each of them were fined 10,000 Saudi rials ($2,666) for trespassing onto the Hajj sites of Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat.

Authorities have called on all Saudi citizens and expatriates to follow the orders and recommendation issued on Hajj pilgrims and refuse to enter the holy sites if they do not have a permission.

One of the five key pillars of Islam, Hajj is required of all Muslims who are able to make the journey to the holy city of Mecca at least once in their lives. The yearly pilgrimage typically draws some 2 million people from around the world.

The Saudi government announced earlier this month that only 1,000 people would be permitted to attend the weeklong ritual this year.
