TEHRAN (IQNA) – Friday prayers will be held again in Egypt’s North Sinai Governorate after several months of suspension.

In March, Egypt’s government announced closing mosques and banning congregational prayers to help curb the coronavirus.

Now, Sheikh Mohamed Yunus, director general of the North Sinai Governorate’s Awqaf Department, says the department is ready to hold Friday prayers in mosques across the governorate.

He said 500 mosques have been disinfected and are read to host the prayers.

The worshippers are required to observe the health protocols, including by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

Last month, Egypt said worshippers will be allowed to perform daily prayers in mosques, excluding the Friday prayers and occasional prayers in feasts.
