Egyptian Qari Sheikh Ali Mahmoud Commemorated

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Quran Radio in a special program paid tribute to late Qari Sheikh Ali Mahmoud.


The program was broadcast on Monday, marking the anniversary of the Qari’s demise, Vetogate news website reported.

In included playing several Quran recitations by the late Qari.

Ali Mahmoud was born in February 1878 in Cairo. He lost his eyesight due to an accident in childhood.

He started learning the Quran by heart and memorized the entire Holy Book at an early age.

He then began learning Quran recitation and Tajweed, and in a few years became a renowned Qari.

Sheikh Ali Mahmoud trained many Qaris, including top reciters like Sheikh Muhammad Raf’at, Sheikh Taha al-Fashni and Sheikh Kamil Yusuf.

Sheikh Ali Mahmoud died on December 21, 1946.
