TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s annual International Quran Competition, among other objectives, seeks to promote unity and concord in the Muslim world, an official said.

Speaking at a press conference held here in Tehran Monday on the 37th edition of the competition, Head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehdi Khamoushi said bringing the hearts of Muslims from different countries closer are among the aims of the Quranic event.

The program began with Quran recitation by prominent Qari Vahid Khazaei.

Another objective is honoring the status of the Holy Quran as the book of life and prosperity in the Muslim Ummah and promoting the status of Quran reciters and memorizers, the official added.

Hojat-ol-Islam Khamoushi further noted that the Islamic Republic is organizing the contest virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He said while many other Muslim countries have called off their international Quranic events, Iran chose to go ahead with holding its international Quran competition using the capacities of the cyberspace.
