TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif congratulated Muslims worldwide on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, Zarif described Ramadan as the month of kindness, peace, blessing and good deeds.

He prayed God to grant Muslims unity and solidarity in the face of challenges to serve the common interests of the Islamic nations, elevate the voice of truth and justice among people and save the oppressed from oppression.

Ramadan (which will begin next week) is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
