TEHRAN (IQNA) – The funeral for Palestinian resistance figure Ahmed Jibril was held in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Friday.

Representatives of resistance movements and Palestinian groups attended the funeral, according to SANA.

Jibril, the founder and leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command (PFLP-GC), died of an illness at the age of 83 in the Syrian capital on Wednesday.

He was a notable supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government in its fight against foreign-sponsored terrorists wreaking havoc in the Arab country since 2011.

His son, Jahad, was assassinated in Beirut in 2002by the Israeli spy agency Mossad.

In a message on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the Palestinian nation has lost a great warrior who spent his life for the liberation of Jerusalem al-Quds.

He added that the demise of Jibril, who was the secretary general of the PFLP-GC, saddened him and all of those who support the axis of resistance.

Zarif expressed condolences to the family of Jibril and members and leaders of PFLP-GC.
