TEHRAN (IQNA) – A member of Hamas' Political Bureau says the Palestinian nation chooses resistance, stressing that the normalization of ties with the Zionist regime has no future.

Speaking in a press conference, Zaher Jabarin pointed to the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in the occupied territories, Alahed reported.

Resistance commanders are following up on the conditions of Palestinian captives and several options are on the table, he said.

Zionists tried to separate prisoners who had tunneled out of Gilboa prison to cover their humiliation from their security problems but the will of the Palestinians was victorious and occupiers were forced to retreat, said Jabarin.

Palestinian men and women are entitled to adopt any measure to obtain their freedom, he said, warning the Zionists of continuing the same arrogant approach.

Referring to the effect that normalization of ties has on the issue of Palestinian captives, Jaberin said normalization legitimizes Israeli crimes, and those who pursue this approach will be humiliated in the face of their nations.

On Oct. 13, around 250 Palestinian detainees from the Islamic Jihad group began an open-ended hunger strike to protest Israeli regime's punitive measures against prisoners.

The punitive measures included not allowing more than one prisoner from the movement to stay in each cell.

Prison authorities have imposed punitive measures against Islamic Jihad prisoners after six inmates tunneled out of the high security Gilboa prison last month in northern Israel. Five were from the Islamic Jihad group.

The prisoners were captured by Israeli forces almost one week after their escape.

There are around 4,850 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, including 40 women, 225 children and 40 administrative detainees, according to institutions concerned with prisoners' affairs.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad said on October 22 that the collective hunger strike launched more than a week ago inside the Israeli regime’s prisons have ended after demands of the group were met.
