TEHRAN (IQNA) – Local police arrested a 33-year-old man on Monday after someone left the carcass of an animal outside a mosque in Vaudreuil-Dorion over the weekend.

A police spokesperson said the man met with investigators Monday afternoon. He was released after he agreed to follow a set of conditions, including that he report to court at a future date if he is charged.

The man might be charged with criminal harassment and inciting hatred, said the spokesperson, who was unable to say what kind of animal it was.

The carcass was discovered Saturday morning outside the Centre culturel Islamique de Vaudreuil-Soulanges on Rang St-Antoine. The building used to be an abandoned restaurant and bar until the mosque moved into it recently.

Last year, when the city launched a special project allowing the building to be used for religious purposes without having to re-zone the entire area, the initiative was met with opposition by what the mayor described as a small but vocal group.
