Awqaf Minister Mohammad Mukhtar Gomaa met with Sisi to brief him on the country’s ongoing international Quran competition as well as the ministry’s Quranic and religious activities, Shorouk News reported.

Sisi urged that international Quran contests should not be limited to the category of memorization but can be organized in other categories as well, such as Tafseer and understanding Quranic concepts.

He also stressed the need for improving the Quranic skills of teenagers and youths who are talented in Quranic fields like memorization of the Holy Book.

In the meeting, Gomaa said the international Quran competition of Egypt has been attended by representatives of many countries.

Referring to other programs of the Awqaf Ministry, he said it plans to organize an international conference on social and global peace in February 2022.

Egypt’s 28th international Quran contest that kicked off in the capital, Cairo, on Saturday, will wrap up today.

Seventy-four Quran memorizers from different countries are taking part in this year’s event, which has been named after late qari Mohammad Sidiq Minshawi.

The panel of arbiters comprises twelve Quran experts from Egypt and number of other countries.

Winners will receive cash prizes totaling 1.1 million Egyptian pounds.
