TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Fatah (Conquest) Alliance in Iraq’s Parliament called the country’s national sovereignty a red line of the alliance and called for the withdrawal of US troops from the country.

Iraq's al-Ameri, Japanese envoy meet in Baghdad

Hadi al-Ameri made the remarks in a meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Iraq Kotaro Suzuki, hailing Japan’s stances in support for security and stability in Iraq, INA reported.

“Our position regarding the presence of foreign forces (in Iraq) is clear,” he said, warning of instability in case foreign troops fail to leave the country by the end of the year.

He also said that if Iraq needs foreign military advisors for training and other purposes, such cooperation should be done based on the Constitution and the country’s laws and with full transparency.

Suzuki, for his part, appreciated Iraq’s role in creating stability in the region and said Japan would continue supporting the Arab country in all fields.

He also called for democratic resolution of the political crisis in Iraq.

Anti-US sentiment has been growing in Iraq since assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Units, along with the region's legendary anti-terror commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad.

They were targeted along with their companions on January 3, 2020, in a terrorist drone strike authorized by former US president Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport.

Two days after the attack, Iraqi lawmakers approved a bill that requires the government to end the presence of all foreign military forces led by the US.
