Mahmoud Shahat Anwar Recites Surah Al-Fatiha Imitating His Father’s Style (+Video)  

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egyptian Qari Mahmoud Shahat Anwar recently recited verses from the Quran imitating his late father’s style.

He attended a program on En-Nahar satellite TV on the 14th anniversary of his father’s demise.

Mahmoud recited Surah Al-Fatiha – the first chapter of the Quran – imitating Sheikh Muhammad Shahat Anwar’s style.

Muhammad Shahat Anwar was among the most prominent Egyptian Quran reciters.

Born in 1950 in Kafr el-Wazir village in Egypt’s Dakahlia Governorate, he started learning the Quran at a young age.

He learned the entire Quran by heart at 8 and when he was ten, his uncle took him to Kafr el-Maqam village to learn Tajweed recitation with Master Seyed Ahmed Fararahi.

Shahat Anwar’s beautiful voice and skillful recitation soon took him to prominence in Quranic circles in Egypt.

He died on January 13, 2007 at the age of 57 after a long period of illness.

His son, Mahmoud, is also a renowned Qari.

Born in 1984, he memorized the entire Quran at the age of 12 and learned Quran recitation with his father.

He has won many top titles in national and international Quran competitions.

The top Qari has traveled to many countries, including Iraq, Iran, Qatar, the UAE, Algeria, Syria, Pakistan, South Africa, Greece, Turkey, and Belgium, for recitation of the Quran.
