The Islamophobia Watch Office of Al-Azhar said countering racism and efforts to confront enmity with Islam and Muslims is praiseworthy, Al-Wafd news agency reported.
It added that Islamophobia is a kind of racism and discrimination and causes the spread of extremism and terrorism.
Al-Azhar also called on other Western countries to follow suit and take steps to counter Islamophobia, which has a negative effect on societies.
In a speech on the anniversary of the Quebec Mosque shooting, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned anti-Islam acts in his country and said the government has decided to name January 29 as the national day of action against Islamophobia.
