TEHRAN (IQNA) – Bahrain’s most prominent Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim described the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen as a dirty war.

In a statement on Saturday, the cleric said the war has been waged against the people of Yemen by neighboring Muslim countries at the order of the despotic US government, Al-Maseerah reported.

He said it is an all-out aggression and a dirty war according to the tenets of the religion and human conscience.

Sheikh Qassim said it shows how the Muslim Ummah has gone astray from the teachings of Islam considering its stance on the war on Yemen.

He went on to say that every Muslim can assess his or her faith in Islam by measuring the amount of attention he or she pays to other Muslims’ situation and support for them.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crushing the popular Ansarullah movement.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead, and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases.

Yemeni armed forces and the Popular Committees have grown steadily in strength against the Saudi-led invaders and left Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the country.
