TEHRAN (IQNA) – The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Iran is the first Muslim country that has put satellites into space.

Major General Hossein Salami

Major General Hossein Salami made the remark after the IRGC Aerospace Force launched its second homegrown military satellite into an earth orbit.

The Noor-II (light-II) was successfully put into an orbit 500 kilometers above the Earth eight minutes after the launch on Tuesday morning, concurrent with Sha’aban Eids.

Noor-II is used for remote-sensing and reconnaissance operations.

The IRGC had launched the first Iranian military satellite, Noor-I, in April 2020

Major General Salami described it as an honor and great Jihad for the Iranian Muslim nation and the IRGC to be able to make the accomplishment despite facing widespread sanctions.

He said this is not just a technical achievement but a victory against the enemies who sought to hamper the Iranian nation’s progress.
