TEHRAN (IQNA) – More than 28,000 members of Iran’s Army learned the Quran by heart in the current Iranian calendar year of 1400 (ends on March 21), an official said.

Head of the Quran, Etrat and Prayer department of the Army’s Ideo-Political Organization Colonel Mehdi Meydani told IQNA that they have achieved different levels, from memorizing one Juz (part) of the Quran to the entire Quran.

He noted that the number of Quran memorizers trained in the Army the year before was around 14,000.

The official referred to other Quranic activities of the Army, saying several Quran competitions were held for Army personnel and their family members this year.

There were also online and in-person courses on Quran interpretation and translation as well as Quran recitation circles.

The “Verses of Light” festival was one of the programs held by the department this year, he noted, adding that it included recitation and interpretation of one verse from the Quran every day during the holy month of Ramadan (In 2021).

Colonel Meydani said the program will be held in this year’s Ramadan as well.
