Quran Competition Begins for Najaf University Students

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The second edition of a Quran contest for university students in Iraq’s Najaf Governorate got underway on Tuesday.

It has been organized by the Najaf Quran Center affiliated to the Astan of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine, Al-Kafeel website reported.

The University of Kufa is hosting the event, in which the participants compete in the categories of Quran recitation and memorization.

Muhnad al-Mayali, head of the center, said a large number of male and female students have taken part in the contest, which is part of a major Quranic initiative for university students in Najaf Governorate.

He noted that a number of Quran experts, including Ahmed Jassim al-Najafi, Majid Hamid, Riza Nasriddin al-Mousawi and Hamza al-Batat serve as members of the panel of arbiters.

The Quranic initiative also includes programs such as Quranic seminars, exhibitions, book reading contests and courses.

They are aimed at promoting Quranic activities in universities and developing Quranic teachings.
