TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quranic calligraphy competition titled “Thaqalayn Award” is planned to be held in Iraq.

Holy Quran

The Quran Printing Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine will organize the event, according to Al-Kafeel website.

The contenders are asked to calligraph two verses of the Holy Quran in Naskh.

Naskh is one of the first scripts of Islamic calligraphy to develop, commonly used in writing administrative documents and for transcribing books, including the Quran, because of its easy legibility.

The participants in the competition write in Naskh verse 104 of Surah Al-Imran: “Let there be a group among you who will invite others to do good deeds, command them to obey the Law, and prohibit them from committing sins. These people will have eternal happiness,” and verse 8 of Surah At-Tahrim: “Believers, turn to God in repentance with the intention of never repeating the same sin. Perhaps your Lord will expiate your evil deeds and admit you to Paradise wherein streams flow. On the Day of Judgment, God will not disgrace the Prophet and those who have believed in him. Their lights will shine in front of them and to their right. They will say, ‘Our Lord, perfect our light for us and forgive our sins. You have power over all things’”.

The 10th day of the lunar month of Safar (September 7) is the deadline for submitting the works.

The top winner will be awarded a cash prize of 5 million Iraqi dinars.

The ten top winners will also be selected to calligraph the entire Quran in Naskh, each of them writing three Juzes of the Holy Book.
