Graduation Ceremony for Quran Memorizers Held at Istanbul’s Taksim Mosque

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Taksim Mosque in Turkey’s largest city of Istanbul hosted a ceremony marking the graduation of a group of Quran memorizers.

This was the first group of memorizers who graduated from the specialized Quran memorization institute affiliated to the mosque, according to Anadolu Agency.

The 31 young people who received certificates at the event had successfully passed an examination held at the recently built mosque earlier.

Recep Janik, the director of the institute, in an interview with the press hailed the successes achieved by the institute’s Quran memorizers.

He hoped that they will attend Quran memorization competition in Turkey and at the international level and win top titles.

Ibrahim Yilmaz, head of the Quran Memorization Department at the Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), was another speaker at the ceremony, who said some 12,000 people receive Quran memorization certificates in Turkey annually.

Taksim Mosque is a mosque complex in Taksim Square, Istanbul. It was designed by two Turkish architects in the Art Deco style, and can hold up to 3,000 worshippers at the same time.

The construction of the mosque began on February 17, 2017 and lasted for four years. It was inaugurated with a Friday prayer attended by the President, Recep Tayyıp Erdogan, on 28 May 2021.
