Religious Leaders Attending Kazakhstan Meeting Underline Promoting Dialogue

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The participants in the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions reiterated the need for promoting peace and dialogue.

In the final statement of the congress, they also called for mutual respect and cooperation for spreading good in the world, Al-Wafd news website reported.

The gathering was held in the city of Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, on September 13-15.

More than 140 religious, cultural and other figures from 60 countries attended the international event.

They include Pope Francis, the Sheikh of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, president of Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs, and Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board.

The congress is held in the Kazakh city every three years.

In a video message to the congress, the president of the Union of the Muslim World Scholars highlighted the importance of focusing on common values among religions and faiths,

He said religious diplomacy is a major and effective tool for fostering humanitarian values, which is among the objectives of the congress.

He also rejected the idea that religions cause conflicts and wars, saying wars are the results of ideologies that are spread by certain individuals who attribute their ideas to religions.
