Int’l Conference on Orientalism and Imam Hussein Uprising Planned in Karbala

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An institute affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine plans to organize an international conference on “Orientalism and Imam Hussein (AS)”.

The Warith al-Anbiya Institute has announced the opening of the reception of papers for the international event, the website of the Astan reported.

Maryam al-Yaseri, an official with the institute, said scholars, authors and researchers are invited to submit their papers on the theme of the conference to secretariat for assessment by the board of jurors.

The conference will be held in Arabic, English and Persian with the motto of “Imam Hussein (AS), Being Global, and Being Everlasting”, she said.

 Character of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in view of orientalists, opinions of orientalists about the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS), sources and methods used by orientalists, views of orientalists about Husseini rituals, and orientalists’ art and literary studies about the movement of Imam Hussein (AS) are among the subjects to be discussed at the scholarly event, al-Yaseri added.

She noted that authors of top papers will be invited to Karbala to attend the conference and the three papers selected as the best ones by the board of jurors will be awarded cash prizes.

The deadline for submitting papers is December 31, 2022 she said, added that works selected to be presented at the conference will be announced by March 15, 2023.
