Maedeh Adibzadeh, head of the panel of arbiters in the women’s section of Iran’s 39th International Holy Quran Competition

Speaking to IQNA, Maedeh Adibzadeh said the competition is one of the major international Quranic events in the Muslim world that has developed in quality year after year.

She highlighted the competition’s effect in promoting unity among Shia and Sunni Muslims and said it attracts those loving the Quran from different countries.

Hailing the inclusion of Tarteel category in this edition of the contest, Adibzadeh said the other two categories, namely memorization and recitation, require special capabilities to master and therefore not everyone can take part in those fields.

So the inclusion of the Tarteel category makes it easier for the participation of a broader range contestants, the Quran expert stated.

Asked about the level of performances in Tarteel, she said there were good performances in this competition, hoping that they will grow even more in quality in the future editions.

The final round of Iran’s 39th International Holy Quran Competition kicked off here in Tehran on Saturday and will conclude in the closing ceremony this evening.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi is scheduled to officiate the ceremony.

A total of 149 Quran reciters and memorizers from 80 countries, including 114 men and 35 women, took part in the preliminary round, held in the categories of memorization, recitation and Tarteel for men and memorization and Tarteel for women, with 52 participants from 33 countries making it to the finals.

The motto of this edition, like the previous one, is “One Book, One Ummah”, a testimony to the significance that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches to unity and fraternity among Muslim nations.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the international Quran contest with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.
