Egyptian Teenage Memorizer of Quran, Hadiths Honored by Al-Azhar

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Al-Azhar Islamic Center in Egypt honored a teenage girl who has memorized the Quran and 6,000 Prophetic Hadiths as well as Arabic poems.

Fatimah al-Bandari, who represented Al-Azhar in a recent nationwide reading competition, came first in the contest, Cairo24 website reported.

She has also previously come first in a reading competition organization by Al-Azhar to encourage the new generation to read Islamic books and maintain the Islamic heritage and culture.

Earlier, Fatimah had bagged the top prize in an Arab world book reading competition held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

She said in a recent TV interview that she started memorizing the Quran at the age of 3 and managed to learn the entire Holy Book by heart a year later.

She later gained mastery over ten narrations of the recitation of the Quran at the age of 13.

Fatimah is currently a student at a high school affiliated to Al-Azhar Islamic Center.

Al-Azhar is a historical mosque and Islamic center in Cairo that has branches, schools and colleges affiliated to it all around Egypt. A Fatimid Caliph commissioned its construction for the newly established capital city in 970 C.E. It was the first mosque established in Cairo.
