Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Cites Quran to Respond to Bahrain Ruler
Esmaeil Baghaei wrote in a post on X on Saturday night: “Iran is a nation with an ancient and rich civilization that embraced Islam and, in the centuries that followed, became one of the main pillars in the formation and flourishing of Islamic civilization. It played a significant role in various fields, from jurisprudence and Hadith to philosophy, medicine, mathematics, and literature.
“The criterion of superiority in Islam is neither the Arabic language nor geographical proximity to the land of revelation. As God Almighty says: ‘Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you’ [Quran, Surah Al-Hujurat 49:13].
“Therefore, no ruler has the right to use merely being Arabic-speaking as a pretext to claim representation of the ‘Mission of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)’ or to replace adherence to the clear teachings of Islam with such a claim.”
The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently — regardless of political differences — emphasized the principles of good neighborliness and brotherly relations among Muslim nations, even in its dealings with a fledgling government ruling over a territory separated from Iran.
In contrast, the Holy Quran explicitly warns: “And do not incline toward those who do wrong” [Quran, Surah Hud 11:113], meaning that one should not lean toward oppressors or support them. Likewise, the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) is reported to have said: “Whoever assists an oppressor, God will grant that oppressor power over him.”

Therefore, anyone who speaks of the “message of Muhammad (peace be upon him)” should, before advising others, measure the conduct of their own government by the same standards: Does siding with forces that have carried out military aggression against a Muslim country comply with the Quran’s explicit prohibition against allying with oppressors or assisting aggressors? And is hosting enemies of Muslims and supporting their military aggression against a neighboring Muslim country compatible with the principles of neighborliness and Islamic brotherhood?
The answers to these questions are clearly stated in the Quran, affirmed by the traditions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and recognized by the conscience of the Muslim community.
