Al-Azhar Chief to Address UN Security Council, Highlight Islam’s Message of Peace

Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center, will address the UN Security Council this week.

In his speech on Wednesday, he will talk about the message of Islam for promotion of peace and security in the world.

He will also highlight the importance of values such as fraternity in establishing sustainable peace globally.

Peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among people around the world will be among other topics in his speech.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, will also address the UNSC meeting in New York.

The ‎speeches will be delivered before a high-level session of the council dubbed, “The ‎Importance of Human Fraternity Values in Promoting and ‎Sustaining Peace.”‎

It will be the first such meeting hosted by the United Nations Security Council to be attended by senior political leaders and decision-makers as well as religious leaders.
