“The liberation of the holy al-Quds city is the most important indicator of unity and all Muslim nations should take this into account,” President Raeisi said while addressing the opening ceremony of the 37th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran on Sunday.
“Meanwhile, normalization of ties with the Zionist regime is like going in a regressive path and returning to the era of Jahiliyyah because normalization is what enemies want,” he added, pointing to the ongoing push by the occupation regime and the US to establish ties to expand the Israeli normalization campaign which has been slammed by Palestinians as a “stab in their back.”
Paying attention to unity is not a trivial issue but an intellectual and cultural package with the Holy Quran as its center, Raeisi said.
“Unity is key to safeguarding the interests of the Muslim Ummah and all our thoughts should be used keeping this unity and interest.”
Terrorist attacks such as those in Afghanistan and Pakistan further urge Muslims to establish unity, he said, adding that all scholars and thinkers need to hate Takfirism and follow the proximity of Islamic madhhabs.
Imperialism knows that people who believe in God are the most important barriers against its moves, he said, adding that the most important feature of the enmity of enemies of Islam is that they are against the establishment of unity among Muslims.
“Muslims need to find their place in the new world order,” he stressed.
The Muslim world is “powerful” because it has strong economic and social leverages while also enjoying a rich culture, Raeisi highlighted.
He said that “cultural and political” diplomacies can be used to establish links between Muslims in Asia, Europe, Africa, and America.
“We are aware of the enemy’s activities and know that defiling of sanctities, desecrating the Quran and the prophets, supporting Takfiri groups, and launching the project of building ties between Muslim states and the Zionist regime are part of such measures,” he said.
Enemies want to “stop the Muslim Ummah through this but we resist and know our enemy,” Raeisi concluded.
The 37th International Islamic Unity Conference, which is held both in-person and online, was inaugurated with the recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran at Tehran's Summit Hall.
More than 200 Iranian and foreign intellectuals and religious figures from various Muslim countries are participating in the conference, which is organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought. The event will conclude on October 3.
The online section of the conference started on Thursday, September 28.
The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on October 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (September 28) as the birthday of the last prophet.
The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.
Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
