TEHRAN (IQNA) – The representative of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq to the Kurdistan Region referred to Takfirism and Zionism as two main obstacles to enhancement of Muslim unity.

Sayyed Issa Mousawi

Sayyed Issa Mousawi, who attended the 37th International Islamic Unity Conference here in the Iranian capital, told IQNA in an interview that extremists in different schools of thought play into the hands of Zionists by fomenting discord and disunity in the Islamic Ummah.

He said if Muslims take recourse to the teachings of the Quran and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), they can stay away from deviation and strengthen their unity.

He stresses that the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) are revered not only by Shias but by all Muslims and they belong to all Muslims just as the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the messenger of God for the whole world.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mousawi slammed attempts by some governments in the region at normalization of ties with the Zionist regime, stressing that Muslims should be vigilant in the face of such moves.

The 37th International Islamic Unity Conference, held both in-person and online, was inaugurated at Tehran's Summit Hall on Sunday.

More than 200 Iranian and foreign intellectuals and religious figures from various Muslim countries are participating in the conference, which is organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought. The event concluded today, October 3.

The conference is annually held during the Islamic Unity Week.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on October 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (September 28) as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
