CAIRO (IQNA) – The Egyptian city of Port Said is set to host a gathering of organizers of international Quran competitions from across the world.

The gathering is set to be held on the sidelines of the 7th edition of Port Said international Quran competition, which is scheduled to take place in the namesake Egyptian city on February 2-6.

Adel Musailahi, executive director of the competition, said that the gathering of Quran competition organizers, which he described as a “world council”, will be the first of its kind in the world.

“This is an important measure,” he said, adding that the council will “stage courses for arbiters to strengthen and homogenize assessment standards and criteria” for international Quran competitions.

This edition of Port Said international Quran competition has been named after the late Egyptian qari Sheikh Muhammad Shahat Anwar.

It will be held in different categories including Quran memorization, supplication, and Ibtihal.

The final round of the 6th edition of the event was held in February 20233 with the participation of 65 contestants from 41 different countries.
