Kuwait Int’l Quran Contest Wraps Up; Winners Named

KUWAIT CITY (IQNA) – The 12th edition of Kuwait’s international Quran award concluded in a ceremony on Wednesday where winners of different categories were and announced and awarded.

According to the website of Kuwait’s Awqaf ministry, the panel of judges announced Abdul Alim Abdul Rahim Haji from Kenya as the top winner in the category of memorization of the entire Quran and Tajweed.

Quran memorizers from Yemen, Russia and two from Egypt came second to fifth.

In memorization of the entire Quran with ten styles of recitation, Mohamed Ahmed al-Saad from Cameroon bagged the top prize while those from Somalia, Libya, Jordan and Yemen won the second to fifth ranks.

In the category of memorization of the Quran for children, Abdul Rahman Osama from Libya came first. The runner-up was Abuna Mohammad Omar from Cameroon and the third to fifth places went to Aiman Muhammad Saeed Darham from Yemen, Mohammad Ahmad Abdul Hamid from Pakistan and Abolfazl Mirzaei from Iran.

In the last category, namely Quran recitation, Abdul Basit Warsh from Morocco won the trophy and reciters from Tanzania Algeria and the host country came second to fifth.

Amin Abdi in recitation and Milad Asheghi in memorization of the entire Quran, were the other two representatives of Iran in the competition who failed to win any ranks.

The 12th edition of Kuwait’s international Holy Quran award had kicked off in Kuwait City last Wednesday with the participation of 121 Quran reciters and memorizers from 70 countries.

Held under the patronage of Kuwait’s Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the international event was aimed at promoting the Holy Quran and encouraging the younger generation to learn and memorize the Holy Book.
