Mrs Mohammed, who converted to Islam about 10 years ago, said the Quran is a guide to her life and that she found peace and tranquility in the religion. “Islam has given me peace. The glorious Quran is also my guide. As I read Quran, it also reads me. I feel peace in my mind,” she said, Daily Nigerian reported on Tuesday.

She married a Hausa businessman, late Ibrahim Sambo, in Bulgaria and moved to Kano with him. They had two children, who are also Muslims.

Mrs Mohammed said she started her Quranic education from home, with the help of a female teacher who taught her the Arabic alphabets and how to recite the Quran.

She said she progressed from verse to verse, chapter to chapter, until she graduated from the Mamba'irrahman Islamic School in Kano on Saturday, along with three other students.

She said she is also memorizing the Quran, despite her old age.
