IQNA – The deputy secretary general of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement said if the Israeli regime expands it attacks on Lebanon, it will receive a severe and effective response from the movement.

Sheikh Naim Qassem

Sheikh Naim Qassem made the remark in a ceremony in Beirut, saying if the war in Gaza does not stop, nor can the war in Lebanon.

If the Israeli regime expands targeting Lebanon, “we will also develop our forces and give a severe and effective response,” he stated

Sheikh Qassem further dismissed criticisms targeting the resistance for fulfilling its responsibility, saying such criticism should be directed at the countries that have failed to support the Palestinians facing a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

He said Hezbollah also fulfill its duty in Lebanon and its forces have supported the people of Lebanon with all-out efforts.

Hezbollah’s record shows that whatever the movement has done has been in line with the interests of Lebanon, the cleric underlined.

Since October 8, 2023, the day after the Israel onslaught against Gaza started, the frontier between Lebanon and the Israeli-occupied territories has seen deadly exchanges of fire, mainly between the Israeli army and the Hezbollah movement.

Reports say Israel has repeatedly used US-supplied internationally-banned white phosphorus munitions in its attacks on Lebanon.

The fighting has forced the evacuation of tens of thousands from the northern part of the Israeli-occupied territories, which have been pummeled by rocket fire and shelling carried out by Hezbollah and allied Palestinian groups.

Hezbollah has already fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, forcing the regime’s forces to retreat in both cases.
