Prominent Qari Highlights Iraqi Holy Sites’ Quranic Activities

IQNA – The Astans (custodianships) of holy sites in Iraq organize various Quranic activities and programs in Iraq and other countries, a renowned Iraqi qari said.

Sayyid Hassanayn al-Hulw, who has also served as an arbiter in a number of Quran competitions, made the remark in an interview with IQNA.

“I am a servant of the Holy Quran from Iran and a servant of the Astan of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine. I am also the director of the Quranic Projects Center of the Holy Quran Scientific Assembly affiliated to the Astan and an honorary qari and muezzin of the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS),” he stated.

Al-Hulw noted that each of the Astans of holy shrines in Iraq have departments and centers for Quranic affairs that organize Quranic activities in religious, educational and other areas.

He said the Holy Quran Scientific Assembly affiliated to the Astan of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine, for example, has professional Quran teaching centers in different provinces of Iraq.

Linked with it is the Quranic Projects Center that promotes Quran recitation and has trained a group of competent qaris who take part in national and international Quran contests, he noted.

There is also a center for printing and publishing copies of the Quran as well as a center for Quranic sciences and concepts, he stated.

Al-Hulw further said that the Astan also has a comprehensive plan for promotion of Quranic activities abroad.

The Iraqi qari added that the Quranic centers and departments affiliated to the Astans in Iraq implement some of their Quranic activities individually and some others jointly.

There is also cooperation between the Quranic centers affiliated to Astans in Iraq and Iran, he went on to say.

Elsewhere in his remarks, al-Hulw referred to Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition, which concluded in Tehran on Wednesday, and said hailed the competition’s development both in quality and quantity.

He noted that there was a significant growth in the number of countries participating in both memorization and recitation categories of the international Quranic event.
