IQNA – The winners of the 30th edition of Egypt’s international Quran competition were awarded at a ceremony on Saturday.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi honored the winners at the ceremony, held by the Awqaf Ministry at Al Manara International Conference Center in New Cairo.

Sisi awarded the winners in the first category of the contest, which includes memorization of the entire Quran plus Tajweed recitation and understanding the meaning.

The first winner from Beheira Governorate won a prize of one million EGP.

The 30th edition of the international Quran contest was held in six categories, including memorization of the entire Quran along with recitation and Tafseer (interpretation), memorization of the Quran for non-Arabic speakers, and memorization of the Quran for prayer leaders and preachers.

There is also a category of Quran memorization along with comprehension of its concepts for families.

Representatives of 64 countries competed in the 30th edition of the international contest.

According to Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, the total amount of cash prizes for this edition was over 8 million Egyptian pounds, showing a 300-percent growth compared to last year’s edition.
